VMRO-DPMNE member of Parliament Vladimir Gjorcev presented the latest demographics figures in Macedonia as catastrophic. Gjorcev said that the number of newborns fell to 21.333 in 2018, the lowest number in the past 70 years and a drop of 1.700 in two years.

This is a reduction of 7.3 percent. If the economy was falling by 7.3 percent, we would have alarms blaring all around us. This is the crucial piece of evidence that Zoran Zaev did not bring life back to Macedonia, as he demagogued. We bring life to Sweden, Germany, Canada, everywhere else but here, Gjorcev said.

Zaev’s SDSM party campaigned strongly on a promise to end the emigration out of Macedonia, which is seen as the main reason for the drop in the birth rate.

Gjorcev pointed out to several anti-family measures undertaken by Zaev and his far left Welfare Minister Mila Carovska, such as the abolishement of the subsidy received by families of three or more children.

The enrollment numbers are going down in all schools and universities. Macedonia is simply imploding, dying out or moving out, Gjorcev said.
