Students from the Faculty of Philosophy, through a guerrilla action in front of the Government building, spoke out against the reforms in education. The participants in the action carried banners with the messages “History is the mother of knowledge”, “No pasaran” and “I do not understand Mila”.

Historian Vasko Gicevski voiced support for the action, saying it shows that Macedonia still has the capacity for a serious and democratic debate.

First of all, I would like to emphasize that I am especially glad that the younger fellow students decided to express their revolt in such a creative way. This shows that in our country there is still a capacity for a serious and democratic debate. On the other hand, it means that we have built enough self-aware staff who are not afraid to publicly demonstrate their opinion on issues that concern them. State institutions should already realize that modernity is not a time for dogmas and blindly following attitudes. From here, as a historian and as a person who advocates for qualitative, not quantitative changes in education, I call on the official authorities to step down from their positions. We all want an improved education system! Of course, if it is made on the basis of serious research and consults all stakeholders, which would include everyone, from parents to higher education institutions. Education is too precious thing to do it ineptly, blindly and quickly, said Gicevski.
