A major incident was reported in a majority Muslim neighborhood of Strumica yesterday, when the police intervened to measure the noise levels emitted from the local mosque.

Hundreds of citizens of the so-called Turkish quarter mobbed the officers and forced them to flee without finishing the job, reports the Strumica Denes news site. Christian citizens were complaining that the mosque is way too loud, and the police, receiving a disturbance order, wanted to measure the decibels, but the Muslims thought that the police is there to stop the late evening prayer. Some of the Muslims were even chanting that they will go and burn down the near-by church dedicated to the martyrs of Tiberiopol.

Police officials announced they will organize meetings between the two communities, to avoid a repeat of the incident.
