Professor Elka Jaceva-Ulcar, one of the signatories of the letter from the Institute of Macedonian Language “Krste Petkov Misirkov” regarding the Law on Languages, said on TV Alfa that the language of communication in our country is Macedonian. She notes that even the Law on Use of the Macedonian Language stipulates that everyone who lives in Macedonia should speak Macedonian. According to her, the new Law on Languages avoids knowing the Macedonian language, which she says is evidence of the new generations of Albanians lack of knowing the Macedonian language.

Ulcar also emphasized that this legal solution puts in a subordinate position all those who speak a language other than Macedonian and Albanian, and the Macedonian language as the official language of this country is mentioned only once. According to the professor, this legal solution is political, and the 2008 Law on the Use of Languages is much better and more consistent than the one now offered.

The law itself since the adoption of the law has been colored with political colors. We had a law on the use of languages in 2008, and my colleagues very well explained at a meeting with the Prime Minister in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, that in fact that law of 2008 is much better and more consistent than this law of 2017, which I do not know what the reasons were for a speedy procedure with European flag. From what we could read, it is a rather confusing and tattered text. That law, in my opinion and in the opinion of other linguistic colleagues, introduces bilingualism throughout the territory of the Republic of Macedonia in the absence of such bilingualism, says Ulcar.
