Criminal law professor Gordan Kalajdziev says that the cases initiated by the Special Prosecutor’s Office were biased and that Katica Janeva’s team was acting illegally in a number of its investigations.

I have no idea why is there such pressure to continue investigating these cases, especially after the Supreme Court found them illegal. Even if a new law is adopted, and the political parties reach some form of agreement, they can’t go back in time to resolve legal issues, Kalajdziev said, discussing the number of criminal cases which Katica Janeva initiated after she was no longer legally allowed to do so.

Kalajdziev says that the ruling SDSM and DUI parties were clearly “amnestied” in the investigations, given that Janeva didn’t dare go after their officials. SDSM is currently working hard to avoid any danger that an opposition appointed prosecutor gets a chance to investigate their officials, especially in the broad racketeering scandal.

Naturally, SDSM hopes that this will remain the case. They are afraid of a change, and whether any future prosecutor would be less inclined toward them, Kalajdziev said.
