Kiril Cenevski, one of the best known Macedonian directors, has died today aged 76.

Cenevski’s main work was the 1971 movie Black Seed, based on the novel by Tasko Georgievski. The movie portrayed the persecution of Macedonians in Aegean Macedonia by the Greek authorities and the deportation of a group of Macedonians on a desolate island camp. The movie was rediscovered in the current atmosphere of political persecution in Macedonia following the Prespa treaty.
