Despite all the concessions Macedonia has made over the past four years, after all the bitter pills we swallowed, we are still outside of the gates of the European Union. The dispute with Bulgaria, which was created by Zaev, is an insurmountable obstacle for this Government, said opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski during a conference in Ohrid today.

Mickoskis aid that the Kovacevski Government, which took over from Zaev, continues to undermine Macedonian national identity, and refuses to meet with the opposition to form a joint position on this key issue.

Their refusal to accept our proposals tells us that we are about to be given a far more intrusive proposal, that goes way beyond amending the Constitution to include the Bulgarian minority in Macedonia in it. It will intrude in our history, in the Macedonian language and in the Macedonian identity. VMRO-DPMNE will not accept that our identity is defaced, not now, nor in the future. They know that they don’t have 80 votes in Parliament and all they have left is to agree that all Bulgarian demands are made part of the EU accession process. That is what Kovacevski is now negotiating on behalf of Zoran Zaev, Mickoski said.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov recently said that Kovacevski has agreed that the issue of constitutional amendments is made part of the EU process, meaning that if Kovacevski can’t amend the Constitution now, all future governments will be bound by the EU to do it at some point in the future.
