Macedonia is stuck in a healthcare, economic and energy crisis under Zoran Zaev, and he and his Government can’t provide the solutions out of the systemic crises, said VMRO-DPMNE official Dragan Kovacki, as the two main parties are disputing whether to hold early elections or whether Zaev’s SDSM party will try to hold on to power.

We need early elections so that we can have the most competent people work on the energy crisis and avert the possible blackouts that SDSM is announcing, along with the coming price hikes. Our hydro potential is drained, REK Bitola is out of coal and the digging machines are flooded. We need early electiosn to efficiently fight the Covid crisis, after the SDSM Government proved to be among the most unsuccessful administrations in Europe, with 7,000 deaths and 14 patients burnt alive in a makeshift hospital, while vaccines were five months late. We need early elections to be able to speed up the process of EU integration. VMRO-DPMNE fully supports the opening of accession talks and will implement the deep reforms we need, Kovacki said during a press conference.

He pointed to the 50,000 votes margin between the two parties in the first round of the local elections, and the changed reality on the ground after SDSM lost the elections and Zaev announced that he will resign. “Only new elections can translate the will of the people onto the Parliament and create a stable Government”, Kovacki said.
