The National Assembly of France will discuss the draft law on the ratification of Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol on Thursday. The lower house of the French Parliament is expected to ratify the Protocol after the debate, after the Senate did it on October 17.

After the French ratification, only the Spanish Parliament will remain to do it, which has not yet been constituted, since Spain held elections on November 10.

The explanation of the proposal, submitted by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, states that Macedonia’s accession to NATO “will enhance the security of the region and of the Alliance as a whole”.

France will remain particularly vigilant on the key principles of the NATO enlargement process, which are an assessment of the candidate countries’ individual achievements and their contribution to Euro-Atlantic security, the explanation added.
