Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said that the police is alert and prepared to respond if the incidents reported with Greece, where migrants demand to be allowed to continue their way north to the European Union.

We already enhanced the security level at the state border between Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia. We are talking about between 1.200 and 1.500 migrants and currently our Greek colleagues are able to manage such numbers. But, of course, we have the duty to be prepared and secure the border against the possibility of entry into the Republic of North Macedonia, said Spasovski.

Greek police used tear gas and flash grenades against the migrants from the Diavata camp, near Solun/Thessaloniki, who are trying to push their way to the border with Macedonia. The small scale crisis was sparked by reports that the border is about to be reopened for migrants. The situation is also tense in Athens, where migrants are blocking a railway station.

Spasovski said that the Interior Ministry is in touch with the EU FRONTEX mission and is coordinating its response.
