Matthew Lawson has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia in succession to Rachel Galloway.

He will take the place of the current ambassador Rachel Galloway, whose mandate expires in July this year.

Lawson is coming to Skopje after serving as ambassador to Dushanbe, Tajikistan. His biography states that he also served as Deputy Chief of the British Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2015 to 2018, and had a diplomatic service in Canada from 2013 to 2015.

The new British ambassador also served as head of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth from 2009 to 2011.
