The investigation into the racketeering scandal keeps avoiding the main culprit. A crime of these proportions would be impossible without the support coming from Zoran Zaev, said opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski during his press conference on Friday.

Mickoski blamed state prosecutors of deliberately delaying action in the corruption scandal that involves Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva, top officials from the ruling SDSM party and, following the publication of wiretaps, Zaev and his deputy Radmila Sekerinska. So far only two bagmen were charged, and prosecutors took more than a month to even question Katica Janeva.

Katica Janeva is not detained, although she is a flight risk and can influence the witnesses. But Janeva is just a tentacle of the main person in this criminal octopus. Zoran Zaev is fully capable of giving up on all his supporters just to save himself. Some say that Janeva is the next person he will give up. For the citizens of Macedonia that would mean that there will be one criminal less at large. But, this won’t end there. We have to get to the main person, to the one who put in place this criminal enterprise, Mickoski said.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader again rejected Zaev’s proposal for a new law on state prosecutors which would place another of his loyalists, prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska, as the new Special Prosecutor. Mickoski said that this would simply enlarge the criminal network the ruling SDSM party developed on the basis of the Special Prosecutor’s Office over the entire judiciary. Mickoski added that none of Janeva’s assistants will be admitted into the new service.
