During the large protest held this afternoon in Skopje, VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski reached out to the left wing of the political divide, urging them to join the right in the protest against Zoran Zaev. Zaev is already facing major division in his SDSM party after in a scandalous interview he accepted practically all positions of Bulgaria, abandoning the position that Macedonians are a separate nation from the Bulgarians and calling Bulgaria a liberator, not an occupier in World War Two.

You evoke the anti-fascist struggle, and you have the full right to do so, Mickoski told SDSM supporters and left wing activists. “But now you need to speak out even stronger, and to stand up to Zoran Zaev. Defending your party from Zaev you will help defend Macedonia. We have our differences, but we have a greater goal – to preserve our honor and our identity”, Mickoski said.

He also spoke to those on the right who don’t support VMRO-DPMNE. “You have the option to join us and be together with us in victory, or to remain silent forever”.

During the rally, which included thousands of protesters and over a thousand cars joining in a long column, Mickoski also called out to other ethnic groups in Macedonia, the Albanians, Turks, Roma, Vlachs.. “Even the Bulgarians gain nothing if we are humiliated. We are for cooperation, we are for friendship, but not friendship with a bent spine. It especially hurts when the humiliation comes from your own kin”, Mickoski said.
