You can’t tell Europe that you are working for European values, and at the same time sneak a drug law that advances your own family business, said VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, after the Parliament adopted a law that is expected to directly benefit the marijuana plantations of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

You can’t be in a coalition with crime and at the same time say you’re fighting crime and corruption. You can’t go to the EU and beg them, simulate European values, and the very next day abuse the European integration procedures in our Parliament to sneak through a drug law focused on the marijuana business, which your family and people close to you are engaged in, Mickoski said in an interview with Sloboden Pecat.

Zaev’s family is a major player in the newly founded cannabis growing business. After reports of disappointing sales of the cannabis oil, the new law is expected to make it easier to produce and export other marijuana products, that would make Zaev’s own businesses more lucrative.
