VMRO-DPMNE member of Parliament Antonio Milososki announced today that the two teams discussing the law on state prosecutors agreed on two points – about the funding of the prosecutor’s service and to increase the personal and collective responsibility of the prosecutors in their actions.

A third point that was agreed, Milososki said, is that there will be no more public statements on the progress of the talks until a final agreement on some of the issues is reached.

We are satisfied with the meeting, it was productive. We approached on two points, Milososki said following the meeting of the representatives of the two main parties VMRO and SDSM. The next such meeting should be held within days.

The judiciary is under enormous strain after years of its abuse for political gains, leading ultimately to the major corruption scandal involving Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva. Without mentioning the scandal, last week US and EU envoys called on VMRO and SDSM to adopt a new law on state prosecutors as soon as possible, given that it will likely affect the hoped for opening of EU accession talks.
