The time has come to put together a Government of experts, said VMRO-DPMNE official Antonio Milososki, warning that the situation in Macedonia is badly deteriorating. He pointed to the inability of the Government to handle the coronavirus crisis and the associated econmic fallout, and especially the collapse of Prime Minister Zaev’s flagship initiative – to open EU accessions by making constant concessions to neighboring countries.

Macedonia is humiliated more than ever. The citizens are more divided and polarized than ever before, politically, in the media, socially. The problems with our neighbors are multiplying and affecting the identity of the Macedonians and our human rights. The EU accession Zaev promised is proving to have been a pre-election manipulation and moves further out of reach. Zaev’s statements are making him and us the mockery of politicians and diplomats in the region, and build up distrust in the Macedonian society toward him. This Government has no ability to handle the political and economic crisis and to build a broad national consensus, Milososki said.

Zaev’s SDSM-DUI-BESA coalition has a majority of just one seat in Parliament over the bare minimum needed to prop up the Government and even schedule a Parliament session. Meanwhile VMRO is building a coalition with the opposition ethnic Albanian parties. In this light, Mickoski proposed that the Government resigns and is replaced by one of well regarded experts who would put together a plan on how to handle the multiple crises.
