The public is justified in feeling deep concern about the way the SDSM led Government is conducting its negotiations with Bulgaria, said VMRO-DPMNE spokeswoman Marija Miteva. Uncertainty about the talks reigns since Friday, when historians from both countries concluded their meeting, which was much hyped in Bulgaria, but the outcome was not shared with the public.

The Macedonian public keeps getting informed about the harmful outcome of the Government’s policies by the Bulgarian Government. The so-called success of the negotiations will mean another defeat for the Macedonian history, the Macedonian identity and the Macedonian uniqueness. This time, it is an apparent deal on Tsar Samoil. The citizens and even the members of Parliament are not informed about what is agreed. Bulgaria is declaring success. We demand clarity about this secret agreement, have we given up on Tsar Samoil, and what is agreed on the use of the Macedonian language?, Miteva said.

Bulgaria claims the medieval ruler as its own hero and insists that Macedonian school-children are taught a version of history built on the Bulgarian historic narrative.
