Mobile vaccination teams sent in an attempt to bolster measles vaccination rates have largely failed in their task. The target of vaccinating 480 children in 11 schools yesterday resulted in only 25 vaccinations.

It is estimated that 3.500 school-children are not vaccinated and the teams will attempt to find as many of them as possible this week, and the Healthcare Ministry threatens misdemeanor charges and fines of up to 600 EUR for parents who refuse to make their children available.

Vaccination rates have plummeted as parents wait for their children to get to a more advanced age, start walking and talking, before they allow them to be vaccinated. A series of blunders by Healthcare Minister Venko Filipce contributed to the drop in public trust in vaccines.
