The Joint Multidisciplinary Expert Commission for Historical and Educational Issues between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, Skopje held Thursday-Friday its 18th meeting.

The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, with open dialogue and exchange of views on the positions and interpretations of the past regarding the XI and XII century, said shortly after the meeting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs without going into details of the meeting. By the end of the year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of four more meetings of the Commission are planned. The next meeting will be held in Sofia on May 12 -13, 2022.

This was the second of the planned five meetings of the Joint Commission for Historical and Educational Issues between Macedonia and Bulgaria this year.

The agenda included the remarks made by the Bulgarian side about the medieval period for our history textbooks for seventh grade, after reviewing the Macedonian remarks about the Bulgarian textbooks for sixth grade.

According to the announcements, during 2022, five meetings of the Commission should be held. So far, the Historical Commission has given recommendations to the governments in Skopje and Sofia for the joint commemoration of five people – Tsar Samuil, brothers Cyril and Methodius and St. Clement and St. Naum of Ohrid.
