World famous tennis player Novak Djokovic posted a video where he sings songs he likes, and at one point he sang Makedonsko Devojce, the beloved song about the beauty of Macedonian girls. He starts his performance by sending out a “greeting to my friends, to Macedonia”.

Shortly after, Zoran Zaev responded to Novak, praising his singing and instantly reminding him that the country should be called “North Macedonia”.

It is a great feeling when an Ace like you speaks with respect and love to the Macedonian people and to all the citizens in North Macedonia, Zaev wrote, adding the inevitable Macedonian flag emoji, which is frequently used by commentators who want to avoid using the name Macedonia in any shape or form.

Zaev’s Facebook page was quickly filled with comments from people asking him to stop saying “North Macedonia” when others, especially famous people like the Serbian tennis star, use simply Macedonia.
