Citizens around the shore of lake Ohrid report yet another fire, this time in the reeds around the St. Erasmus clinic west of Ohrid.

Firefighters were sent to stop the spreading of the blaze. The fire comes a week after the State environmental inspection began investigating the series of fires reported mainly around Struga. It is widely presumed that the fires are started by developers.

The reeds are important for the eco-system of lake Ohrid, which is Macedonia’s main tourist attraction. But they are also unpopular with developers, who prefer clear beaches and open lake access. A day after a recent fire near Struga, workers were on the site preparing the foundations for a future beach complex.
