The leaders of the main opposition party VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski will meet with the leaders of the Alliance of Albanians Ziadin Sela and Alternative Afrim Gashi tomorrow.

The meeting will come at a conference organized by the German conservative Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, at the Skopje Hilton hotel. This is a first such meeting of the leaders whose parties are already coordinating on some issues in the narrowly divided Parliament, and where a formal coalition was already been proposed.

Mickoski recently himself said that he is open to cooperation with parties from the ethnic Albanian bloc “who are able to keep their word”, and then clearly placed the ruling DUI party in the other category.

SDSM and DUI already had pre-election coalitions for the municipal elections in 2017 and the 2019 presidential elections, and SDSM had a coalition with the smaller Albanian BESA party ahead of the 2020 general elections, which is adding additional pressure on the opposition parties to team up. Next municipal elections are expected to take place in about a year.
