Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bujar Osmani said today after his first meeting with new Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi that he was encouraged and hopeful that the goal of starting EU membership talks in the spring is achievable, but that this is necessary to adopt the law on public prosecution.

There is no formal Council decision in June 2018 and 2019 that the public prosecution law is a prerequisite for negotiations, but obviously EU member states are very sensitive on this issue, so no matter that formally it is not a prerequisite, I think that if adopted, it will change all member states’ positions to say yes, Osmani told MIA after meeting with Varhelyi.

Osmani took the opportunity to urge all stakeholders in the country to make an effort to find a consensus on the vote on this law.
