President Stevo Pendarovski, who was an outspoken supporter of the Colored Revolution and now disgraced Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva, said that he is disappointed in the report of her corruption and criminal activities, but also asked that the other activities of the SPO should still be considered legitimate. Janeva’s completely one-sided campaign of persecution against the VMRO-DPMNE party she led since 2015 allowed Zaev’s and Pendarovski’s SDSM party to grab power in Macedonia in 2017.

It is one thing to look at the work of the SPO as an institution up to now, and the procedures led by other prosecutors, not just Katica Janeva. It is a completely different matter to see this latest case and I urge from this position, take it as you will, that the prosecutors process the case as soon as possible and leave not the slightest spot on the work of the institution. To conclude, the SPO was an example of what should have been done at the time when we were organizing the democratic changes, Pendarovski told Radio Free Europe in an interview.

He said that the SPO should continue to operate and should possibly investigate current office holders, not just the previous ones from the VMRO-DPMNE party.
