President Stevo Pendarovski said that he approves getting the EU more involved in the dispute with Bulgaria, but said that Bulgaria rejects this option. Bulgaria blocks Macedonia from opening EU accession talks as it demands major concessions in the area of national identity, history and language.

We have no problem and don’t fear more Europe in this dispute. But notice that Bulgaria insists on a strictly bilateral dispute – it says that when someone comes in from the side, they will not understand the dispute, Pendarovski said.

In a Sitel TV interview, Pendarovski added that the Bulgarian demands are insulting toward Macedonia in many regards, and that it is unlikely to get anything done by December 14th, when is the European Council.

If somebody forms a majority in Bulgaria, that will be in January, during the holiday season. There won’t be anybody working in Brussels, Pendarovski said.
