Two sovereign states, two nations have decided to overcome a long-standing problem together in the interest of the region and Europe, says Gregory Pfleger, United States Consul General in Thessaloniki, MIA reports from Athens.

We support the idea of the Prespa Agreement as a diplomatic solution to a long-standing problem between two sovereign states, two nations who have decided together to overcome this issue for the greater good, in the interest of the region, and the whole of Europe. Washington is supporting it and we are very clear about that, the US consul said in Thessaloniki, adding that the agreement showed the US administration “how strategic, capable and stable ally is Greece in the region.”

Regarding the reactions in the northern part of Greece, Pfleger says he saw “how emotional and historical the issue is in northern Greece,” adding that “it’s hard to understand if you did not grow up here in Macedonia.”
