In a TV address on Saturday, Macedonia’s Prime Minister Zoran Zaev called for early parliamentary elections as soon as possible after the country did not receive a date for opening EU accession negotiations.

Huge injustice was done to us in Brussels. We have delivered reforms, we have resolved issues with our neighbors. But failing to give us a date is their historic mistake, and all European leaders have confirmed it. We did all we could do. I want to thank the great majority of European leaders who were on our side. We are victims of EU’s historic mistake. I am disappointed and angry and I know that all people feel that way. To me, this unfulfilled promise is extremely bad. I take responsibility and therefore call for early elections as soon as possible. And this will be my proposal at tomorrow’s leaders’ meeting with President Stevo Pendarovski, said Zaev.
