VMRO-DPMNE member of Parliament Ilija Dimovski believed that the strategy chosen by the ruling SDSM party – to close ranks and try to ride out the major corruption scandal – will backfire and ensures the end of the Zaev Government.

The fact that there are no resignations made today guarantees that the downfall of this (already finished) Government will come soon. They put in place a system for violent blackmail stretching over the entire political scene and also used it for racketeering and cash-grabs. It is clear that they accepted to change the name of the country believing that they will be allowed to carry on doing this, the experienced VMRO member of Parliament said.

Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva and the Zoran Zaev led SDSM party received uncritical support from a number of European and American diplomats in the period starting with 2015 as they were going after the then ruling VMRO-DPMNE party for its alleged corruption. The lack of any criticism aimed at Zaev, despite the corruption allegations following him since 2008, left the impression that SDSM is beyond criticism or scrutiny so long as it ensures that it will grab power and sign a treaty with Greece to rename and redefine Macedonia.
