VMRO-DPMNE presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova commented on the refusal of European leaders to approve accession talks for Macedonia as evidence that the Zoran Zaev Government is eroding the democratic processes in the country.

We heard it from Macron, Merkel, Hoyt Yee, that we must stop pretending to have democracy in the Western Balkans. We must stop improvising, following actors, fraudsters. I would be happy if we were given a date to open EU accession talks, but we are frankly far from it. You join the EU by following the rule of law, when crime and corruption are reduced to zero, when you end nepotistic public sector hiring. Macedonia is not such a country and we have now been warned, Siljanovska said.

She also condemned the recent statement from Deputy Prime Minister Bujar Osmani, that the Prespa treaty will collapse if Macedonia doesn’t receive a date for accession talks as “fear-mongering”.
