Skopje was the worst city in Europe in terms of air pollution overnight, and 6th worldwide, according to the AQI index.

Citizens are beginning to fire up the wood and coal furnaces as temperatures are going down with the end of the unseasonably warm autumn we had so far. Other Balkan capitals such as Sarajevo and Belgrade would give Skopje a run for its money in the past days, but overnight only cities such as New Delhi and Lahore were ranked worse than Skopje.

Meanwhile Mayor Petre Silegov, who campaigned strongly on the issue and claimed that he will clean up the air, asked the public to stop pestering him with the issue and demand that the mayors of other municipalities around the capital do something.
