Zaev’s First Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi said that the, even with Zaev expected to finally resign tomorrow, new coalition talks could protract this process for a month. Zaev announced that he will resign after badly losing in the local elections to VMRO-DPMNE, but he is trying to cobble together his lost majority in Parliament before leaving office.

At the moment we are in talks not just with the Alternative party, but with other political parties, asking them to join the ruling majority. This applies to all parties who want to see Macedonia in the EU, Grubi said.

He added that he expects Zaev to begin a lengthy procedure of electing a new leader of the SDSM party, which includes a vote of all party members, and then nominate the new leaders as future Prime Minister.
