Although the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in countries around the world, so far no case has been registered in our country. The Delta variant remains dominant, both in our country and in the countries in the region. Meanwhile, authorities are calling for more mass vaccination, which is the only real way out of the pandemic.

The new Omicron variant was confirmed for the first time in the Balkans yesterday. Specifically, it is about two patients from Croatia who got infected with the new variant, even though they haven’t traveled to South Africa, but were in meetings where there were guests from abroad.

Although this variant is spreading rapidly, the first indications are that it is less dangerous than the Delta variant. This was stated yesterday by the chief medical adviser to the US President and part of his COVID-19 response team, infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci.

He noted that scientists need more information before coming to a conclusion about the severity of Omicron variant.

The Omicron variant has so far been detected in a third of US states, including the northeast, south and west coasts.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people infected with the Omicron variant usually develop a milder symptoms of the disease.
