France, like other EU member states, looks at the region’s road towards the Union from a regional perspective. In this regional context, it is clear that there are differences between countries. And there is one general problem, and that is the problem with the rule of law, said French ambassador Christian Thimonier, answering a journalist question about Paris’s position on EU enlargement.

It is important to compare and contrast the opinions of all member states on this issue and to take a step forward, as we wish the whole region to take a step forward and this will represent true European integration. We can say for now that talks are ongoing, Thimonier said.

First of all, the French Ambassador added, we need to know the opinions of all partners.

We are closely monitoring the situation in North Macedonia, the developments especially the adoption of the Law on Public Prosecutor’s Office. Another week remains. Of course, if there is agreement it would be a positive element, Thimonier said.
