Pavle Trajanov, leader of the DS party which is part of the SDSM led coalition – but is notorious for switching sides – said that after the coalition’s meeting with Zoran Zaev yesterday he believes that Zaev will eventually resign.

Zaev announced his resignation both as Prime Minister and SDSM leader on Sunday evening, after the defeat in the local elections, but he still hasn’t submitted it and seems to be open to “being persuaded” to back down.

The coalition partners, we met in the Government, and unanimously we agreed that the ruling majority is stable and there is no need for new elections. The local elections were to elect mayors and city council members, not to elect a central Government. The problems happened after Zaev announced he’ll resign. A new Prime Minister will raise new questions. My conclusion is that Zaev remains firm in his decision, Trajanov said.
