It is a matter of international credibility for the EU to decide on the Summit to set a date for the start of accession negotiations with North Macedonia, former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker at their meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, according to Greek ANA-MPA news agency.

The President of SYRIZA also raised to president Juncker the issue of North Macedonia, stressing that it was a matter of international credibility for the EU to decide on tomorrow’s Summit to set a date for the start of accession negotiations. Sources from SYRIZA reported that Jean Claude Juncker thanked the president of SYRIZA for their constructive cooperation and the positive work of his government, which has contributed decisively to the stability of the Eurozone and to the enhancement of EU’s role in the Western Balkans, in particular with the signing of the Prespa Agreement, the Greek news agency said.

The SYRIZA leader and former Greek prime minister said on Twitter that the Prespa Agreement and the European perspective were some of the topics he discussed with the EC president, MIA correspondent in Athens reported.

We discussed the importance of the Prespa Agreement, the EU’s role in the Balkans and the need to decide on the start of accession negotiations, Tsipras wrote on Twitter after meeting Juncker.
