Patricia DiGiovanni, the UNICEF representative in Macedonia, called on the teachers’ union and the Government to come to some compromise over the school strike, that is in its third day. She warned that long delays in the school year will negatively affect the children.

Workers in the education sector, like all other workers, have the right to protect their rights with a strike. At the same time, children in Macedonia can’t afford additional interruptions in their education and learning. A solution that works for both sides, and especially the children, should be found quickly, DiGiovanni said.
