The Executive Committee of VMRO-DPMNE decided today to call on its members of Parliament to follow the law in the upcoming vote on whether to revoke the mandate of former Prime Minister and VMRO leader Nikola Gruevski. This means that the opposition party may vote in favor of revoking the mandate of Gruevski, who received political asylum in Hungary after targeted persecution by the Zaev regime.

According to the law, a member of Parliament can have his mandate revoked if he is absent from the legislative body for six months.

VMRO-DPMNE stands firm on the principles of honesty, sincerity and adherence to the laws and to the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, regardless of the political, societal or other background, unlike the unprincipled, criminal, unjust and selective approach practiced by SDSM and Zoran Zaev. With this in mind, we call on and encourage the members of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia to act in a way which will show non-selective respect for the laws and the Constitution in the case of the member of Parliament Nikola Gruevski. If the conditions are met to revoke his mandate, we appeal and encourage the representatives to act in accordance with the law. VMRO-DPMNE believes that the political persecution by the Government, its selective application of the laws and the protection if lends to actual crime needs to be emphasized and condemned by everybody, the VMRO-DPMNE party said in a press release.

The opposition party also declares that, once the Zaev Government is out, and a new, VMRO led Government is in place, “we will restore the rule of law and the truthful application of the laws, as well as an unbiased fight against organized crime and corruption”.
