VMRO leader Hristijan Mickoski says that he considers the NATO integration of Macedonia a “done deal”, but is open to renegotiate the Prespa treaty as the EU accession is getting stalled.
Pressed by a journalist on Monday evening about the VMRO-DPMNE position regarding the Prespa treaty, Mickoski said that he is opposed to it and will work to re-negotiate from a future Government he expects VMRO to form.

We see that our sister party in Greece, the New Democracy, is also opposed to the treaty, and it is likely that soon, even while Zaev is Prime Minister, they will form the Greek Government. We will soon see what steps they take with regard to the treaty. If they thrown down the gauntlet, we will accept it. Why shouldn’t we sit down and re-negotiate? We would certain do it in an inclusive way, not in the way Zaev and Dimitrov negotiated the Prespa treaty. We will include actual experts, and will work that the treaty represents an added value to our people and our state, Mickoski said.

The treaty was adopted between the ruling left wing parties in both countries – SDSM and SYRIZA, without opposition input, and was rejected at a referendum in Macedonia, while Greece didn’t even hold a referendum due to the obvious negative mood among its citizens.
