VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski called on Zoran Zaev to resign as Prime Minister, as he announced, after the total opposition victory in the local elections.

Zaev needs to get over himself and do what is best for Macedonia. He must finally accept the message that it is done. He needs to go. It’s not just Zaev who must go but all that he represents, Mickoski said as triumphant VMRO supporters celebrated the long stream of reports of victories across the country in the second round of the local elections.

After his major defeat in the first round, Zaev announced that he will resign if his candidate Petre Silegov loses the race in the capital Skopje – the votes are still being counted, but Silegov’s defeat is clear.

VMRO also won in most of urban centers in Skopje – SDSM looks likely to win only in Centar while VMRO won in Aerodrom, Gjorce Petrov, Kisela Voda, Butel, Gazi Baba and their ally won in Karpos. VMRO also won a dozen important cities – Bitola, Ohrid, Prilep, Veles, Stip, Gevgelija, Radovis, Vinica… SDSM won only Zaev’s stronghold of Strumica, and managed to lose Kumanovo to a rebel former SDSM official. They managed to win half a dozen mid sized cities like Berovo, Krusevo and Delcevo.
