VMRO-DPMNE will call for a boycott of the 2020 census if it is conducted under the current law, which allows that long term emigrants are counted just as the current residents are, said VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski. Ethnic Albanian parties in Macedonia, faced with the especially high emigration rates in their community, insist that emigrants are covered by the census using apps or other means of electronic communication.

We believe that this way of conducting a census is very damaging to the majority Macedonian community and if the law is not changed, we will call on the citizens to opt against participating. We need to stop having this situation where Macedonians are seen as second class citizens. Speaking to ethnic Macedonians, there is a sense among them that they are second class citizens in their own country, Mickoski said during his Alfa TV interview.
