Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had some fun at the expense of his guest, President Stevo Pendarovski, as he retold how shocked Prime Minister Zoran Zaev looked when they discussed the EU accession talks.

You’re asking me if Brussels knows what to do with itself, or with us. I will tell you that they are not sure what they want with us. I told that to Zoran when we met in Novi Sad. Zaev looked at me like I was crazy when I told him there will be no date for accession talks. I turned out to be right, Vucic said during his joint press conference with Pendarovski.

Pendarovski insisted that the new enlargement methodology proposed by France will still allow the eventual full membership of the Balkan countries. Vucic insisted that the EU is “toying with us like puppets” and said that the recently launched Mini – Schengen initiative will help put an end to the current style of behavior from the EU toward the Balkans.

During the press conference, Vucic also chided Pendarovski about his use of headphones to listen to the Serbian portion of the conference. “You speak Serbian better than I do”, Vucic said as Pendarovski reached for the headphones.
