Speaker Talat Xhaferi announced that he will propose amending the rules of the Parliament, a move that is usually done with consensus of all major parties, in order to expand the use of the Albanian language.

This is proposed under the controversial law on the use of the Albanian language, which Zoran Zaev’s SDSM party pushed forward in order to win the continued support of the ethnic Albanian parties in its coalition. Despite being seen as unconstitutional, as it expands the use of the Albanian language across the whole of Macedonia, and not being signed by President Gjorge Ivanov, Zaev’s Government implements the law, including now in the Parliament.

Nikola Micevski, head of the group of the oppositon VMRO-DPMNE party, said that the proposal is against on-going attempts to establish normal dialogue between the parties, supported by the European Parliament. Micevski reminded Xhaferi that such decisions were always made with the fullest possible consensus.
