Zoran Zaev called on the European Union member states to approve the opening of accession talks with Macedonia. The issue has turned into a major problem for Zaev, who rammed the humiliating name change through on the promise that it will open EU perspectives for “North Macedonia”.

We expect that the date to open accession talks will be given this summer. It is clear that June is slipping out of reach, because the Bundestag will hold a session between the 3rd and the 6th and I don’t believe that a report published on May 29th can be formally and legally processed by the national parliaments in all EU member states, although if countries like Germany, which is our great friend, put in just a little bit more effort it could be possible, Zaev said.

By his calculations, if the countries approve the proposal in June, “the country” could expect a decision by the European Council in July. And if the matter fails, accession talks would have to be postpone for Autumn, Zaev added, underlining that he delivered the Prespa treaty and “100 percent of all the reforms” and reminding his EU partners that the country has been waiting for 14 years to begin accession talks.
