The President of the Judicial Council, Kiro Zdravev, considers that the Law on the Use of Languages cannot be enforced in court proceedings and that the Venice Commission’s remarks are correct. Speaking to “Sitel”, Zdravev says it is undisputed that the provisions of the Law on the Use of Languages cannot be enforced in court proceedings, as it would delay the proceedings.

According to him, the Venice Commission’s remarks are correct, as existing laws allow citizens who do not understand Macedonian to get a translation.

As for the legal changes announced by Prime Minister Zaev to implement the remarks of the Venice Commission, Zdravev says it depends on the legislature.
