Tobacco farmers aligned in several associations protest against the record low prices that their harvest has fetched this year.

We signed an agreement on Friday and we expected that things will improve, but the problems have largely remained the same. Some farmers are satisfied but the majority are not. We call on all farmers to appeal to the committee whenever they think that their harvest is under-evaluated by the cigarette companies, said Igor Mirceski from the GMT association.

Mende Stomnaroski from the Farmer’s Association of Macedonia said that state inspectors need to be called whenever a farmer has the quality of his crop estimated below its actual quality.
