Regional elections in the German state of Thuringia revealed the continued drop of the social-democratic SPD party and delived wins for the far left Linke and the far right AfD parties,  the V4 news agency reported.

Linke won the elections in this part of former East Germany with 29.5 percent of the vote, followed by AfD with 24 percent. AfD beat the center right CDU party which won 22.5 percent.

SPD, which is part of the national ruling coalition with CDU and of the Thuringian regional government, dropped to just 8.5 percent.
