Fans of the Greek PAOK football club displayed a large banner declaring that “Macedonia is one and only and it’s here” during their Champions League game against Ajax on Tuesday in Solun/Thessaloniki.

The sign was displayed in protest against the Prespa treaty which renames the Republic of Macedonia into “North Macedonia”.

PAOK was founded by Greeks brought into Macedonia from Turkey as part of the population exchange that followed the war of 1921. These Greek communities are historically among the most nationalist and insist on the Greek character of the region of Macedonia.
