Voting began in the second round of local elections, in which 32 municipalities and the city of Skopje will elect mayors. These are the municipalities which did not elect a Mayor in the first round since no candidate had the sufficient majority.
A total of 1,013,375 citizens are eligible to vote in 1,771 polling stations, which opened at 7h in the morning. So far there are no reports of any issues with the voting process. Polling stations will close at 19h, and the preliminary results will be made public later in the evening.
Voting for council members also takes place in three polling stations in Skopje’s Shuto Orizari municipality, which had issues in the first round.
The city of Gostivar and the rural municipalities of Vrapciste, Mavrovo and Centar Zupa will not vote today. There, the first round of the mayoral elections was invalid due to low turnout. These four municipalities will repeat the process two months after the local elections are concluded.
