The planes of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS) and two helicopters of the Interior Ministry and the Army are involved in extinguishing the fire in the Lakavica Region in the municipality of Stip, announced in an urgent statement Stojance Angelov, head of DZS.
He points out that there are about a hundred villas along the Lakavica River and, for now, firefighters and volunteer firefighters are fighting to save them
A big thank you to all the firefighters who, with superhuman efforts, managed to stop the line of fire which concerned us graetly, because there was serious danger to the numerous cottages that are along the dried-up bed of Lakavica River and are the size of a large village. There are a hundred cottages in this section. For now, there is control, a sufficient number of firefighters have been deployed in several places. I expect that by the evening we will have control at least of the part that threatens the cottages, and then it remains to put the upper part that is moving in the direction of Mount Serta under control, said Angelov.
He noted that significant forces of firefighters from all professional units from Eastern Macedonia are involved in extinguishing this fire.
But at the same time, I also requested support from the fire teams of the Directorate with volunteer firefighters who are here on site. We have several fire vehicles here, an armored personnel carrier of the State Security Service that serves to defend the nearby cottages, but also several army vehicles, said Angelov.
In addition to the fire in the municipality of Stip, between the villages of Selce, Puhce, Stepanci and Lakavica, where low vegetation is burning, there are active fires in the municipality of Struga on the territory of the villages of Piskupstina, Lukovo and Burinec, where a forest is burning; in the municipality of Saraj in the region of the villages of Kopanica and Radusa (low-growing forest and low vegetation); in Dolno Arnakija – municipality of Saraj (low vegetation); as well as in the village of Gosince, municipality of Lipkovo (low-growing forest).
