Two firefighting planes of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS) are operating this afternoon over the village of Gracani, after a fire broke out on the Kosovo side of the border yesterday, informed the DZS director Stojance Angelov.
Angelov said that the fire had approached the village and posed a threat to it, but that he hopes that the firefighters deployed to the site, with the help of the “air tractors”, would manage to cut the fire line, which, as he said, was more than five kilometers long.
According to the factual situation, the task has already been completed so far. The fire has been stopped where it should have been stopped, so that it does not spread and spread downwards. The guys from the Directorate helped us a lot. With all the resources we are going as far as we can and as far as we cannot, but it is good to coordinate because with more people we will finish all the parts, said one of the firefighters of the Skopje Fire Brigade, who is part of the team engaged in the fire near the village of Gracani.
In addition to this fire, as Angelov informed today, several other fires are active in the open on the territory of the country. Among them are the two fires on the territory of the municipality of Studenicani, which someone apparently re-ignited in the morning or during the night. However, they do not pose a threat to populated areas and he expects them to be brought under control soon.
Angelov assessed the fire raging between the Municipality of Struga and the Municipality of Kicevo as the most serious. A helicopter of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia operated there this morning in support of the firefighters from Struga.
